Eric Carle Collage

This is a collage using the same technique as Eric Carle did in his books. The first step was to create colorful painting that we could use in our storybook design. Once those were dry we sketched out our own storybook page and used the different colored paintings to make it.
This would be a great project to do with any artist. Make students aware of the different artists and their work. Explain each artist's style and let them try it on their own. For example, you could use the artist Andy Warhol and explain to the students why kind of art that he created and how he created it. Show them lots of examples and point out how his art is the same and how it is different. Then give students a chance to try making their own art like Andy Warhol.

Collage

Here is a collage project that we did using tissue paper. After the tissue was dry we used markers and pastels to outline our collage designs. We then added a cityscape to our collage. I decided to use more of a country outline because that describes me more as a person.
Collages would be great projects for the holidays. There are so many different kinds of tissue paper to use that go along with the different holidays. Students can then add some sort of design using construction paper that goes along with the holiday. For example, if you were to do this project at Christmas time you could collage with Christmas paper and then use a Christmas Tree or a present something to go along with Christmas.

Elements and Principles of Art

Here is a picture of seahorses. The color of the seahorses has great constrast to the white floor and the purple rocks. Contrast can be differences in colors, value, shapes, texture, as well as other elements. Contrast adds excitement and interest to a work of art.
This is a picture of ice hanging off the side of a barn. This is a good example of the element lines. Lines are made by a pointed tool. They can be all different sizes. The length and width can differ as well as how thick or thin the line is. These ice lines show all the different types of lines.
I like the idea of using photography because the students can relate well to it. I would have students bring in photos from home. They would then work with a partner and try to find the elements and principles in their own photos. They would then share a few of their photos with their classmates.

Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh

Here is my interpretation of Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. Before we did this project we studied aout Vincent Van Gogh's artwork as well as his life. This helped us to understand more about the artist before we took on his work for ourselves. We then got paper and red, yellow, and blue paint. This painting was all done with our fingers. I would have students bring a paint shirt or apron for this activity.
I would do a similar project in my classroom, but for an older grade. They would all get a list of artists to choose from and research. They will need to research and find a painting that they would like to do their interpretation of. Once that have determined that they will get their paper and paint. They will be provided different kinds of brushes but are welcome to use their fingers. Once the projects are done each student will present their work of art to the class. They will tell us about their artist and their painting.

This is an introductory project that we did to introduce ourselves and our interests. The bone that is on my foot is to represent my two dogs who are named Lily and Fin. The school is there because it represents a big part of my life. My career choice is to be a teacher so I plan to be involved greatly in school. The heart in the center has my last name on it. This is to represent my family. It is located in the center because my family is the center of my life. I love going to the movies that it why I have a movie stub and of course popcorn! My boyfriend of five years trucks so that I why I have a truck on my foot. I also drew a flip-flop on my foot because summer is my favorite season.
This project would be a great way to get to know my students. Another project that I would do would be to let students bring in materials that are about them. I would give them a smaller piece of tag board to assemble everything. They would also be given different medias such as markers, paint, ect. When all of the projects are done I would hang them out in the hallway so others in the school can get to know them as well.
